Amebiasis
Amebiasis is a disease caused by a parasite Entamoeba Histolytica. The parasite causes infection in the intestine. It generally occurs due to poor sanitation. This parasite enters the body by the way of food or water. The parasite can live in the intestine either without showing any symptoms or producing severe symptoms.
Though everybody may be affected by this disease, it is found more in people who live in poor sanitary conditions. Amebiasis is found worldwide. It is more primarily found in areas which are overcrowded. Immigrants, travelers and homosexual males are in the high risk group of this disease.
Amebiasis Symptoms
Amebiasis is an intestine disease that is caused due to a parasite called Entamoeba Histolytica. This infection generally continues to bother the patient for about two weeks. If proper treatment is not taken, it may return. If the infection continues for a long period large bulge is formed that block the intestine.
In the early stages Amebiasis may cause abdominal pain, diarrhea, stools with mucus and blood, severe gas in intestines, fatigue weight loss etc. If the infection becomes severe, the patient may suffer from abdominal tenderness, blood in stools, 10 – 20 stools per day. Vomiting and fever may also be associated in severe conditions.
Sometimes there may be no symptoms in Amebiasis. For some people the symptoms may appear within days after getting infected and in some people, the symptoms may appear after nearly few months.
