Causes of Amebiasis

Amebiasis usually spreads by contaminated water or food. If the protozoa enter the blood it may spread to other organs like brain or liver. Symptoms of Amebiasis are abdominal pain, diarrhea, blood in stools etc.

Common cause of Amebiasis is the consumption of food and water that are contaminated. The infection may also spread from person to person directly. Unhygienic conditions provide more chances of getting affected by the disease. People living in poor sanitation surroundings have more risk of getting Amebiasis. Vegetables are fruits that are contaminated may also cause Amebiasis.

Diagnosis of Amebiasis

The most common way of diagnosing Amebiasis is by way of stool test. The stool is tested for puss, blood and Entamoeba species. Blood tests are conducted for revealing antibodice. Sigmoidoscopy is done to evaluate the walls of intestine. Ultrasound and CT scans are taken up to identify if there is any liver abscesses.
