Prevention of Amebiasis

Amebiasis is the infection of intestine and is caused by a parasite called Entamoeba Histolytica. This is a result of consumption of contaminated water and food. Amebiasis can be prevented by taking certain measures.

• People who travel to countries where there are poor sanitary conditions should drink only bottled water or boiled water.
• It should be remembered that water-purifying tablets are not effective to kill amebic cysts.
• Cooked or peeled vegetables or fruits should be consumed.
• The food should be protected from flies and other insects.
• Hands should be washed before and after defecation.
• Hands should be properly washed before eating food.
